Combined Heat & Power

Combined Heat & Power (CHP) is the simultaneous co-generation of electricity with steam, hot and chilled water usually from gas turbines or gas reciprocating engines, combined with a heat recovery boiler. The heat output can also be used for absorption chilling purposes.

CHP replaces the conventional approach of buying electricity and separately raising steam in a boiler.

A number of fuels including renewable sources can be used to fire CHP plants.  Renewable fuels are mainly either landfill gases or biomass materials such as straw, wood and animal waste.

CHP offers the opportunity to significantly reduce both energy and environmental costs.
